We'll be walking an excellent new loop of Seattle's historic Japantown, using a map provided by the Wing Luke Museum, with help from National Park Service, Feet First, and many more. The walk will focus on the history of the neighborhood.

The spot to meet is the newly expanded Hing Hay Park, on the Maynard side, 423 Maynard Ave. S. I'll be wearing a Feet First T-shirt, or if it's raining heavily, look for a green baseball cap.

A surprise guest will join us. This person is very knowledgeable about the history of this amazing, historic neighborhood!

Distance and Terrain

The loop is fairly short, about a mile, with some elevation gain in several locations. We will be on sidewalks throughout, no stairs. If you have any specific questions about accommodations, please email me (stewartj at seanet.com).

A definite time for this walk is hard for me to predict as much of it will depend on the questions folks on the walk ask. A great way to prepare for the walk is to download the map at http://www.wingluke.org/file_viewer.php?id=5706Ple... feel free to print this out and bring it along!

My best guess is we will be somewhere between an hour to 90 minutes in walk time. We'll end up back at Hing Hay Park.

Dogs are welcome as long as they are on-leash. Children of all ages are welcome, but with the understanding that we may stop and talk for periods of time.

Transit access to Hing Hay Park is easy; the park is a short walk from the International District station on the light rail, as well as all the buses (and the streetcar) on Jackson.
