Most Safe Routes to Schools (SRTS) efforts are organized and led by adults. The Student Leadership Model is different in that interested students are recruited and trained to organize and lead SRTS activities at their school. By involving students in promoting environmentally-sustainable transportation modes, they become a cohesive force with a much stronger capacity for sustained engagement within a community.

The student leadership model is also well-poised to reduce climate anxiety in young people, pairing efforts to reduce carbon emissions with collaborative action. Come join us to learn, celebrate, discuss, and prepare the way forward.
